The Traditional Midwifery Freedom Path supports Black, Brown, Indigenous and Queer traditional midwives on their path to licensure to increase the number of Black, Brown, Indigenous and Queer traditional licensed midwives in Central Virginia.
In partnership with Gather Grounded Midwifery with support from Hesperian Health Guides, and The Troutula Fund the first year is fully funded. We are deeply appreciative to our funders and welcome support in continuing The Traditional Midwifery Freedom Path.
The Traditional Midwifery Freedom Path provides culturally-affirming traditional midwifery education, midwifery equipment, culturally affirming attire stipend, traditional midwifery textbooks, monthly stipend and paid rest. Removing obvious barriers while caring for learning midwives, who then care for the community.
This action to improve Black maternal and newborn health outcomes, is starting with the uplifting of Black, Brown, Indigenous and queer midwives in their learning, leisure and licensure pathway.
The Traditional Midwifery Freedom Path is guided by Black, licensed midwife, Racha Tahani Lawler-Queen with the support of Black nurse midwives, Nichole Wardlaw and Haguerenesh Woldeyohannes.
